born in dallas, texas on an unusually stormy night, eleanor mae blackwood was welcomed (albeit begrudgingly by some of her older siblings) into a family of five, including her mother. her father left not long after her birth, men rarely sticking around that long in the blackwood coven. she was raised by her mother and older sisters, who could fight at the drop of hat, protect each other with the fierceness of a lion protecting her cub, and love each other through thick and thin.
even at a young age, ellie always had an excess of energy. when combined with her curiosity, it led to an interesting (and most often aggravating, at least for her caregivers) childhood. she always felt a dire need to try new things, get into new forms of trouble. she gave her mother hell, drove her sisters crazy, and made it extremely hard for her friends to keep up with her. on her thirteenth birthday, this would all change. after a deal had gone bad with a group of vampires, ellie came home that night to find her mother and three of her sisters dead. the vampires were still feeding when she arrived, but instead of killing her, they kidnapped her. she didn't know that being alive could be worse than death. it wasn't until five days later that her oldest sister found her and rescued her. gone was the young, energetic, carefree little girl and her in place was an insecure, scared young woman. for the next five years, ellie and her sister moved around. they knew they couldn't go home, there was no home without their family anyway, so they traveled around texas and oklahoma, never really daring to venture much further. ellie had to work long and hard to get past her anxiety and depression, and to this day, she still can't fall asleep without the lights on. but with the help of her sister, she worked through most of it. then, she just became angry. enraged. furious. resentful. after all the misery and sadness, there was just no more room for anything else but anger. at least until the day her sister disappeared. she fell back into a depression, unable to rest, unable to find peace. so she did the only thing she thought she could, she opened up her book of magic. using a locater spell and a map, ellie found the closest werewolf to her location and cursed him into being her protector. her mother had always warned her about casting ancient spells. they were difficult to perform for an experienced witch, dangerous to perform for one as inexperienced as herself. those spells took a finesse she hadn't learned yet and there were always repercussions to using magic without fully understanding it first. but for ellie, desperate times called for desperate measures. she woke the next morning after having blacked out from performing the spell with the runes of her mystic language burned into the skin of her left wrist. there was no erasing them, no turning back. she couldn't find anything even remotely similar to what had happened in the book of magic that was passed down between generations of witches. all she knew for certain was that something had changed; something was different about her. she wasn't as afraid anymore. she didn't feel as lost or alone as she did the night before. and it was true, she wasn't alone any more. ellie had unintentionally bound herself to this werewolf, and she was feeding off some of his emotions. when she finally figured it out, she took off into the night and she's been running ever since. she was never the type of person for commitment. hell, everyone she ever loved, left her. being associated with her meant only one thing for the other person, death. it scared her more than anything else knowing that she was this deeply connected to someone, so until she could figure out how to reverse the spell, she was going to need her running shoes. ellie knows when the werewolf is close. it's like someone is tugging on a rope that's wrapped around her wrist, drawing her in whatever direction they're in. she feels compelled to go to them, but she's become so finely in tune with the feeling that she knows the tingle at the base of her spine is her trigger to get the hell of out dodge. sometimes she can end up staying in one place for a long time; the longest she spent was a year in tuscon, arizona. other times, she's had to pack up and move in less than a week. running has been her life since she was eighteen. she's gotten pretty damn good at it. there was no rhyme or reason to her going to louisiana, but for the past six months, ellie has created more of a life for herself there than anywhere else. she still has a backpack full of clothes and money stashed in a dark corner of her closet, but for whatever reason, she has less of an itch to grab for it. maybe that means her werewolf protector has finally given up on finding her, she's not sure, but new orleans could be her first chance at having a real home. ellie currently runs a small shop, no bigger than a couple of square feet and in a seedier part of town, but it's her's. it's a known tourist attraction, what with her palm readings and tarot cards, but it's where people can come to her for other kinds of help. since moving to new orleans, she's found that there is a large number of supernatural population in the city and some of them require her supernatural abilities. she sets the price and they pay, it's good business. there's no telling what's in store of her, not even ellie can read her own future. but she's willing to stick it out, for the first time in a long time, to find out. mother
